Be a Root Friend

I recently came across a post about friendship that really stuck with me. It said that in life, you have three types of friends: leaves, branches, and roots.

Leaves are seasonal friends. They are there when life is good, when things are fun and carefree. But as soon as the storms come, the winds blow, and life gets hard, they fall away.

Branches are somewhere in the middle. They are just kind of there, but you can’t really count on them. When life gets heavy and you try to lean on them, they might break.

Then there are the roots, the friends who are with you through every season of your life. No matter how tough things get, you can always count on them. When you feel like giving up and have nothing left to give, they are the ones who speak life into you. They encourage you in your darkest hours. You can trust them, no matter what. They stand in the gap for you, lifting you up in prayer.

These are your true friends.

Jesus is the ultimate root friend, the one who knows you better than you know yourself. The friend who will never leave you, no matter what season you are in. He is trustworthy and loyal.

If you are blessed to have a root friend in your life, don’t take them for granted. Cherish them and be a root friend to someone else.

“A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
 Proverbs 17:17 (KJV)
